what a shit argument , although not the biggest Led Zep fan , much is owed to them, inspired loads folk and brought a lot of people alot of good times, plus they put a octupus i a girls love hole on tour....
Queen have amazing moments too, some distinctly excellent tunes, such as dont stop me now, every girl boy and girl-boy in the world has danced to that... its simple really.....
both bands were named checked in Waynes world , says it all....
purely down to taste innit, so you cant really have a constructive argument, Igor Cavalera i think is the best drummer around

Nice one Mag, good ole point. One final comeback.
4 hour drum solos are self indulgent and overblown
led zep can hardly be described as a farce or a waste of time.
how much great music did theyinspire, even if you dont like em?
so boo sucks to you zombieboy!

aye but most of the music they inspired was cack too, much like the beatles. people say they were responsible for the way modern music has turned out but is that really a good thing?

im not being flippant here astro but you said they inspired the prog rock movement? seeing as prog movement was well underway when the zeppelin first came about (Floyd forming many years earlier) thats a little short sighted i think. King Crimson vs Kingdom Come eh?
im not always one to champion the beatles and led zeppelin, but they did inspire a shed load. like shed seven.

how can you say the beatles inspired cack? in that case i'm cack, you're cack, everything in the united kingdom is cack... i have had very interesting and genuine people talk to me about the impact of the beatles and nothing today compares to it... you say perhaps its not a good thing they inspired modern music... perhaps you think that modern music aint inspiring... say a band come along that is completely different and have a revolutionary way of thinking and incedible new sounds and everyone goes WOW and the whole country goes into a "mania" about them.... that would be the modern day beatles. personally i think modern music is getting better again since its last peak in 97, still too much wuss rock and "o.g. log" in the charts though

even if u dont like the beatles, uve got 2 admit what an impact they've had.they still inspire music today. personally i think modern music is looking pretty darn good.im sure they inspired some 'cack' bands, but i reckon they inspired a lot of good bands 2.cant really argue with the beatles.

the beatles were a boy band, bland meaningless drivel. until they had a joint and heard pet sounds, then they became a very poor pschedelic pop band who wrote songs that sounded like dodgy kids' tv show theme tunes. they were CACK. p.s david, fair point, but i don't think pink floyd were a prog rock band initially, they were very silly and twee, and just sounded like the beatles. the moody blues were worse though.

early pink floyd was not silly
astronome domine and set the conrtols for the heart of the sun are works of genius and they sound nothing like the beatles. you are clearly not a fan of the beatles or pink floyd and obviously therefore havent paid much attention to them

If you are talking about McCartney's somewhat dubious contribution to their back catalogue then I couldn't agree more. However, if you actually bother to listen to some of their albums you will find some truly amazing songs that really were ground breaking. They were writing songs in the 60's that still sound fresh and exciting now. That, and they made british bands and british music popular throughout the world. So if you think that every British band ever was cack, then fair enough, but without the Beatles we'd prbably be drowning in cruddy Californian pop punk a la Green Day, or bland Euro Power rock. I'm not even going to start on your views on Pink Floyd. Who would you deem as a truly great 'inspirational' band from the past? Or do you think all music started the day you first listened to a band, and everything else before that is irrelevant because you dont like it/doesn't have ultramegahyperdistortoguitar on every track?

Syd Barrett was a legend, ok some of his lyrics could verge on the comical at times but he was still an enigmatic genius, has anyone seen that X files were the guy is really into Barrett and he turns out to be a fly.... not that i am a nerd our anything
