Well last night was brilliant! I must say it was one of the strongest line ups of the year for local and regional bands and I have to say there was a sense of professional rivarly between all the bands because all the bands wanted to prove they were the best!
Here we go: -
Dilemma - never heard of this band to be honest but they had a decent enough mix of funk and indie which got a decent enough reaction, and i think they brought a few mates down which was cool! what stood out most for me was the guitar work as each song seemed to consist of a 3minute solo. The only downside for me was the performance was non existent, maybe talking to the crowd and moving around on stage wont go a miss heh.
Last dance massacre - saw these guys a few weeks ago and to say i was looking forward was an understatement ) as usual they got a good crowd reaction with their blend of hardcore and dare I say metal! standouts for me were the duelling vocal parts with melodic singing and extra screamo parts. I think they had 1 or 2 technical difficulties but they handled it well and it didnt ruin the set. I dont think they were as good as last time I saw them whether it was the sound or whatever, still that being said they're better than alot of bands you'll hear on a bigger "scene" label and I can really see big things for them *adopts mystic meg pose*
Etheral - ill try not to show bias as theyre from my old haunting ground of Sunderland! They were a metalcore band similar to say 18visions or killswitch, as with the last 2 bands musicianship was very good and they put alot into the performance. They provided an enjoyable set, nothing too startling but nice to see bands from other cities playing here and im sure they will get better and bigger!
Ulcat Row - havent seen these guys live since the new ep came out so didnt know what really to expect! To sum up it was technically proficcient spastic hardcore similar to Sikth. The new material shows a wider of range of sounds and vocals and a lil but übercrazy pit broke out which was nice if you're into that sorta thing heh! Oh I may like to add the pretty lights were used for them yey!
Callous - im 99% sure ive never seen them live and after 2minutes of their set I realised id never forget it in a hurry! They had a huge following (lots of whom werent really around for support which was a shame) but their loss! Musically they were heavy as fuck with all kinds of jazzy bits and time changes thrown in for good measure! Their vocalist showed an incredible range and proved that you didnt need to scream to show agression. Lazy comment but theyre defo for fans of System of a Down. Ive seen there was a few comments posted about the "emo" people and the "metal" people but hopefully all that shite will be ignored in view of the excellent bands who performed!
I cant really say who got set of the night as all bands brought something totally different to the stage and it was a really strong lineup, hopefully all these bands will get chances to headline soon )
