Well last night the brickyard hosted a metal/hardcore evening and jeezuz it was fookin class! heres my lil review.
Got there by 10 and turnout wasnt too good, saw a few faces i recognised and a few i didnt.
Anyway, at the far too late in my opinion start time of 11pm LDM took to the stage, and I owe them an apology! Before they played a note i felt myself waiting for a barrage of typical soul-less "xheartfashionmyspacecore" sounding like any band on Victory records with dull screamy bits and twangy guitars.
Oh how i was wrong... ;D
They played a very unique and brutally heavy set of hardcore in the vein of Converge, Psyopus and Beecher. But what set them aside from these acts were the dualling vocals which ranged from melodic singing to ear piercing screaming courtesy of a guest vocalist.
They had alot of confidence which could have been seen as arrogance as at times it felt like they were playing to their mates as opposed to trying to make new fans.
For me the highlight for me was a song called Kerosene which hit the crowd like a ton of bricks and was infintley times heavier than any live band ive seen in months and I genuinley think they could get a decent support slot to send them to the next level.
So an excellent start to the evening and after a very quick few words with the band they seemed like sorted lads so touch wood theyll be playing again soon!
Now after a short changeover Blind Spite made their return with their new vocalist, Lee (who im sure i knew from school...).
All I can really describe this band as is grindcore/black metal similar to Mortician, Exhumed, Nile and Pig Destroyer. Near constant blasting, bowel churning riffs and ear piercing screams and grunts, oh yes!
Ive seen Blind Spite a few times in the past and this was easily the best time ive ever seen them, they got some of the crowd moving (as well as some karate dancing from LDM!) but alot of people including myself was enjoying watching them.
The new songs fit in well with the old songs and seem to show a progression from the old days to form a modern sound which wouldnt seem out of place on Relapse records.
Managed to get a cd from both bands, sound was excellent and a nice change was the use of a light show which gave the show that little bit extra!
All in all 2 excellent bands and one helluva headache this morning ;D
