Hey all. Just a quick post.
I agree with a lot of what Adam was saying about the new Tauntra EP, its fantastic. However, a couple of quibbles.
1. I think that the production, while it sounds good, is not faultless, neither is the mix perfect. I think it was a llittle bit too ska-sounding for me, as I think Tauntra are more a ska-influenced rock band these days, rather than a rock-influenced ska band, like they sound on the CD. This is my personal opinion though, not to detract from another generally good job from Johannes
2. This EP is not a major shift in the Tauntra sound, I've been hearing these tunes live for a long while now. Its great that they're down on CD, but Tauntra have always been a quality rocky-skaey mish mash that I have had the pleasure to see develop into a top local act.
Keep an eye on those sweeping statements Adam, that road is the way to Q. You don't want that.

hey bez,
glad you enjoyed the review, what i wrote was my opinion on Tauntra - having played with them back in the day, watching them live and develop into a recording act that can sell many many albums, my review was a reflection upon their success to date and with this EP, I do think their sound has developed much since last years This Is My Heart In Sound - though I appreciate that much of the content on the CD has been played live now for some time.
As for Q, Im studying a degree in Journalism and Popular Music and if I cant have a career as a musician Id love to be a writer - Im gaining experience from Mark, who has kindly continiued to invited me to write for the site, and now the label. Im still finding my own style though and hope to continue to progress into a decent writer - hence if Q asked me to write for them Id be straight there.
But thanks for the constructive critiscism Bez, Its good to know that people are actually thinking about what Im saying.
Cheers

That's a better way of putting it, but all I meant was I don't see how the number of albums a band sells has anything to do with how good their music is.

hmmm....
i kinda see your point, but if a lot of people want to listen to your music, surely they must be doing something right...
its not necessarily evil and corporate to sell lots of albums!

Yeah sales mean fuck all,but if this band has the ability 2 shift albums then thats not a bad thing,as long as they didnt change their sound 2 make sure of that,or sell out by sellin their songs 2 things never got 2 hear the band yet,but u r gettin some pretty good write ups-i wish u all the best, lets hope u can get ur self somewhere, though if u r makin music u r buzzin off then so be it I AGREE WID BEZ'S COMMENTS-i take comments like that as constructive critism, which i found very useful 4 my band, its better than 'u r fuckin shite etc' wish u all the best, cos it seems like u have alot of potential

Funny you sould say that I was going to but I left it out cos' obviously most of the folk that read the review wont be drummers so perhaps wont mean as much to them. It was a nice touch though, and I did mention it to Steve after he sent me the disc.
