Ahh, a new review. But wait. Its not really a review, but yet another 'look at all the band names I can drop in' excersize, and the phrase
'Snooky are capable of (I hate to say it) mainstream success'
pisses me off more than anything else. You've already said that you like the album. You've said that it sounds cool. Why would you hate for a band that you like to have some 'mainstream success'?
Surely that would be not only a good thing for Snooky, but a good thing for Cumbrian music in general, forcing the up-their-own-arse A&R type to stop focusing on their own London-centric world and look up here to see what great bands there are.
Which would be good for about 90% of people who are into Motivesounds as that is what we are all here for.
Grow up.

yeah i agree. Don't get me wrong, the reviews great and I'm very grateful to henri park for his kind comments.
But at the same time I agree with dr gonzo. mainstream success shouldn't be perceived as a negative thing. As long as a band doesn't change their sound in a conscious attempt to become more commercially successful then it's fine.
I admire lots of bands who have achieved mainstream success and lots that haven't. It shouldn't matter either way.
it can be the downfall of a band tho so Henri is right too. Hundred reasons, for example were once an underground phenomenon. then they had a couple of hit singles, a big selling debut album and soon became a fairly mainstream band. their second album was a flop. it saw the mainstream crowd slip away and the original 'underground' fans were already long gone. now they're knackered and back to playing venues as small as when they first started. shame really. can't remember what my point was gonna be now. oh well. laters people

i agree that a band trying to achieve mainstream success by whoring their sound is about as shamefull and tastless as it gets.
a good band achieving mainstream (by mainstream I assume you mean commercial/label/chart) success through being bloody good (i.e. any decent band you've heard on the radio. ever.) then there's nothing that inspires more hope for the sordid corporate world that is the music industry.
as i dont think the lads are going to be selling out any time soon (unless imminent mega-stardom provokes heavy class a bills that can only be paid through chart-chasing) i think that if the first time you hear em you thnk they're gonna be big then that is an entirely positive thing.
and yeah, i'll see you saturday.

Hundred reasons, for example were once an underground phenomenon. then they had a couple of hit singles, a big selling debut album and soon became a fairly mainstream band. i never liked hundred reasons, to be honest i thought they always sounded like they were trying to get radio 1 to love them, which to a certain degree (aka 1 album) it worked. but yeah i utterly agree with the view that being commercial isn't a good thing if it's forced. but if it comes to ya from outta nowhere and ya happy who cares? nirvana were commercial, this doesn't mean they were shit (albeit unhappy). if anything, i heard teen spirit when it hit the charts which kinda snapped me outta lines 'n' noses, which in turn led me to some fuckin awesome music that i may not have discovered til later life, if at all. ..............and teen spirit may aswell be a fucking aqua song it's so poppy. (cue the hate for me following that statement) if anyone is so concerned about having to 'not like the wrong music' they may aswell get out the burberry caps and be done with it. if ya don't like pop, jazz, metal, hard house, whatever, it's unfair to typecast any music as commercial just coz it's shit as there is allsorts in the media spotlight today. anywho good to see reviews comin back ;D ;D

Cheers for the review Henri, good to see a few reviews knocking around. the points well covered now but yeah, mainstream is good for me....because for atleast, i hope people can connect and enjoy our music and if mainstream means thats a lot of people "digging the groove" then, im as happy as that bloke larry. and i agree, forcing out pop songs to get rich and famous....bring on simon cowell,ya know. i just think its ace weve been likened to the blues bros, cus russ dressed up as one last year, much to my approval.....sorry for that tangent. see you saturday and if any1s interested, im spending the next day making up cds so if you want one dont be affraid to ask on saturday

yeah, as 'reviews editor' i guess it will be in my remit to send reviews back to the writers if the comparisons are too obscure. i've not heard 'deflower' so i can't comment in this instance (mind you, i've not heard minus the bear either, so shoot me down). but i'm going to try not to interfere with the writers, just tidy things up a bit.
as for 'mainstream success' well, i think henri park is referring to the fact that a lot of reviewers tip bands for mainstream success and he hates to join in the trend and tip Snooky as well. that's my interpretation.

of course dr. bukkake.
this is all an interpretive rant using mr park's review as a springboard to discuss larger issues ie. underground vs 'mainstream' popularity.
i think its a fine review cos it got me thinking about the band and if I've got issues with certain things said, then this is the place to bring em out.
roll on the next review!
