1 NIGHT - 4 BANDS - £5
The 18th March sees The Marratimes staging another showcase event and features 4 of the very best local bands. As well as a headline set from The Marratimes, local bands The Resolve, Delivo & Mazzoni will be bringing their own unique styles, sound and original material to the masses. The night of live music is being held in the sought after venue Whitehaven Civic Hall. The Marratimes are urging all live music lovers to support the event and be entertained.
The Marratimes are a four-piece band based in West Cumbria. Stephen ‘Spud’ Murphy on acoustic guitar and lead vocals, complemented by Steve English on electric guitar and vocals, Gerry Millar on Bass and Paul Cannell on drums. The Marratimes have established a local following and have played many high profile local gigs including support for Ocean Colour Scene’s Simon and Oscar to increasing acclaim.
In order to establish themselves The Marratimes are currently staging a series of showcase gigs in the Cumbria area, enabling other bands to join the stage. These concerts are organised by the band and are self-financed & have attracted press interest. An extract from a review of the most recent concert at Rosehill Theatre:-
“A superlative show of original live music that could lift even the heaviest of souls. The Marratimes couldn’t fail… They delivered everything they promised and more – from the melodic feel-good Summer Sun and the funky Hindsight, to the haunting, heart-wrenching Farewell and the blistering Another American Dies – never has social commentary sounded so sexy.” – Andrea Thompson - Whitehaven News
The Resolve consist of Lead guitarist Chris Musson, rhythm guitarist Thomas Caton, bassist David Wallace and drummer Gavin Amor. They play 'innovative rock'n'roll' inspired by quintessentially English bands such as The Jam, The Smiths, Oasis, The Clash and The Stone Roses. Since their formation in March 2005 they have been gigging furiously building a solid fan base and reputation of being a solid upfront band.
Delivo are a 4 piece group featuring Dave Connor on vocals and guitar, Dave Proud on lead guitar and vocals, Mike Proud on bass and Mat Kirk on drums and vocals. They are all about playing melodic, catchy music with snappy riffs that is designed to entertain. They pride themselves on involving the audience in the show as much as possible.
Mazzoni have been together for just over a year and consist of lead singer Nev Twentyman, guitarists Steven Tubman and Mark Rothery, bass player Lee Agnew and drummer Andrew Henshaw, all of whom are based in Whitehaven. Playing a host of original songs, penned mainly by guitarists Steven Tubman and Mark Rothery, the band revive memories of early Oasis with their sing along harmonies and anthemic choruses.
Tickets for the gig are £5 and available from The Whitehaven Civic Hall on 01946 852821, or on-line at www.copelandbc.gov.uk/civichalls.
