Manu Chao. Walter knows how good that would be. Or if we're going for it.........pink floyd circa 1979 would be mint as fuck.

HAha...all right, Beethoven circa Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure would be amazing too....
Also, The Modern Lovers just because I think 90% of people at the Brickyard wouldn't understand them.
And Ben, buy This Is A Long Drive first. TRUST me. 'Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset' is on there, which is their best song as far as I'm concerned, also, 'Dramamine' & 'Breakthrough', and god, so many good songs. Plus Isaac's voice is at its best on that record.

i think that the new album has completely diminished Modest Mouses sumblime track record. apart from the Fruit That Ate Itself. which is also a bit wank. i bought it hoping that Float On was just some freak shit track they decided to release, because y'know, they had a complete lapse of brain function or something. but nah, the album as a whole is a let down. sometimes it sounds like a comedy album. and the production is shit. yes. Moon & Antartica and Lonesome Crowded West are their best. Theyve also done Sad Sappy Sucker and This is A Long Drive... and building nothing out of something. just wondered whats so awful about float on? i am not into that sort of music but i can actually bear listening to that song because its alright. the melodic guitar riff on it is very nice

because you compare it to anything modest mouse has done before it and it sounds stupid. its like a joke. listen to the way he sings. this is Issac Brock, who has the best voice in music. its actually grown on me though

I haven't heard any Modest Mouse except 'Float On', which is pretty good, although it sounds quite similar to James' 'She's A Star'.
How about Serafin @ the Brickyard??

I showed you talking shit, paper thin walls and broke. ie: theeir best songs. Float on just seems like they've realised that that song is a song for MTV2 and a bit more mainstreamy.

Nah, the fact that it's is mainstream isn't why i don't likie it as much , i dson't like it as much as its well, not good. It happens to often, bands sign to a major and turn shit.

It happens to often, bands sign to a major and turn shit. Yeah. But the whole Major/Indie thing's taken abit too seriously alot of the time. It's only rock 'n' roll at the end of the day. Fuck the politics behind it. You like what you like. From an unbiased point of view though I'd never heard of Modest Mouse until about a week ago and didn't know they were on Sony and still think it's a wicked record. Looking forward to buying their old ones now. God those corporate bastards are about to make a shitload of dirty cash from people like me

I find this whole major vs. indie thing a bit futile, because most (and I stress most, not all) indies are pretty much as 'bad' as majors, from what I gather. At the end of the day, it's all about the music. It's such a cliche to say a new band's record on a major label is crap, even when it isn't. Examples = Modest Mouse, Cave In, Sonic Youth, etc.

if there's a major difference with majors vs indies it's that the majors seem more capable of dropping bands for purely financial concerns. even if a band is making money, if they're not making enough then the axe may fall. emi, now one of only 4 major companies, are happy to send £80m robbie williams' way whilst at the same time slashing 20% of the roster. because williams makes money for emi by the bucketload at the moment it's a good investment, which is not what music should be about. the minute robbie crashes & burns they'll drop him in a flash.
bands that normally flourish on a major label are ones who have had time to develop and build an audience on an indie who usually lack the push to get them onto radio. r.e.m., sonic youth and the flaming lips are all examples. modest mouse look like they are just the latest ones. 'the moon & antarctica' was the sole MM album hmv on oxford st in london 18 months back and now 'good news...' is in asda. surely this is a good thing?

sikth are good, there songs are catchy and i think they are class. plus every member of the band is awesome at their respective instrument (or their vocal chords) the drummers only 22 and hes soloing at drummer live which is impressive
