www.punktastic.com/reviews/2408An Introduction to The Manatee, Manatees Carlisle's Manatees have released their debut EP through conceptual label Motivesounds Recordings. It's an interesting release that on first listen fails to captivate, but upon repetition manages to claw its way deep into your soul. Ultimately, it's a mind-blowing example of musical experimentation, and what can be accomplished by thinking outside of the box. While unlikely to have widespread commercial appeal, it's certainly deserving of high praise, purely because it's so different, so daring and so downright innovative. It's hard to believe that there are only three men that make up Manatees. With a sound so intricately complex, that utilises anything from bass guitars to fire extinguishers and bicycles, it's certainly not a record that goes by quietly. Pin-pointing influences is almost an impossible task for a record like this as it's just so unconventional and unique. Imagine Sigur Ros and Explosions in the Sky having a fight to the death with Old Man Gloom and Pink Floyd, and you're about halfway to describing the band's sound. Individually the songs lose much of their meaning, but when the whole album is played from start to finish in its entirety, it's well worth more than just a casual listen. Grab yourself a copy of this masterpiece, sit back, close your eyes and press play. It will change your perception of music in a way that acid never could. Andy R it got 4 and a half out of 5
