Accent and geography is never and excuse for jumping on a bandwagon.
I read a good story about the Antarctic Monkeys, though, really doing well for themselves. Strange how tribute bands can do so well these days, what with Green Dayz (formerly, Totally Robbie) supporting Jamelia and whatnot. I think its great. Friend of Carlisle and Leeds, Stuart Whittaker went to see a Messhuggah cover band. Weird how, if you able to play the music of Messhuggah (sic?), you could probably play any music you wanted, yet they choose to be in a cover band. Weird, no?

that's an interesting point, and i completely agree - i was thinking something very similar the other day. as part of final exams, 3rd music students at liverpool have to perform 30minutes of either original or interpreted music in front of an audience at barfly. ive been drumming for a guitarist who has chosen to re-arrange and perform pieces by Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Allan Holdsworth. For such a talented guitar player I was surprised to learn he didn't have a band of his own. I would have thought with such skills he would have concentrated his efforts into a project of his own and perform original music. It would have taken him the same amount of time to compose his own pieces as it did to learn and re-arrange the complex jazz/blues arrangements he's chosen so it cant be just a case of not being arsed. A Messuggah covers band I would love to see. Perhaps some musicians, regardless of how talented they are, feel unable to better the music of their favourite artists and would rather focus their energies toward replicating it instead??

I think the main thing is.... some musicians would like to make a living out of playing in a band, albeit whilst sucking satans cock.
The rest of us struggle by on a wing and a prayer and a shitty day job.
Don't really know who's winning any more.
