Best is possibly the stage names by okkervil river. Worst the weirdness - the stooges. So so bad.
Shellac's new record isn't the best either.

best : UNSANE 'visqueen'
worst : dont know so many terrible bands around at the moment it would be hard to choose.
Personally probably SHELLACS new one.

Im gonna have to say Shellac too, or the new Modest Mouse for bad. Neon Bible is also pretty drab. and Aereogramme's last effort.
To be honest most of the records I thought were the best were actually released last year. So I'm going with the Icarus Line, Animal Collective, and the Clipse records. Ryuichi Sakamoto with Fennesz is brilliant too.
Most surprising is probably In Rainbows. Maybe one for the "most improved band" category.

Load Blown by Black Dice Pilgrimage by Om Untrue by Burial At All Ends by Yellow Swans Cloudz by Sunroof! (this year I think) Rules & Regulations by Roll Deep (this year, I think?) Fennesz/Sakamoto is good too. A Crimson Grail by Rhys Chatham Person Pitchby Panda Bear Hymn of the North Star by Loren Connors Those were all good. Chatham and Connors being the best, probably.
The Battles album, after all the hype, was pretty shitty. As was Shellac. I actually can't believe it took them 7 years to produce that crap.

Anyone I talk to about music insists that the Battles album was awful at first, it then took them ten listens and then they just GOT IT, and now its the best thing theyve ever heard. I've given it eleven listens.
Its still fucking shit.

I quite like the battles album. Not as good as the ep but o well.
I forgot about person pitch and Kala. Two great albums. Rules and regulations was this year, but i think is pretty mediocre, Wiley's Playtime is over is pretty fly though.
New wu tang on the tenth, i hope it's good.

It says a lot that the best record I bought this year was a deluxe reissue of We Are The Romans by Botch. The new Eagles album is pretty good as well.

Pffft. I duno. I want to contribute to this, but I find difficult to remember what albums I got this year and which of those were actually "new".
Off the top of my head: Big Business- here come the water works. Pretty sure that was this year, it was well good anyhows. Been in and out of my player since I got it. a great progression from their first.
Torche- In return/Torche OK so the self titled came out like a year ago, well it was officially released in the UK this year. And it's fucking mint. As is there new E.P In return. Great pop stoner metal riffage.
mammatus- the coast explodes. I very much enjoyed this.
Om- Pilgramage Wasnt as good as hoped, but still better than the average.
Oxbow- The Narcotic Story. Great stuff. "A winner everytime" is superb.
Yeah so hardly buy albums when they're out. albums I should have got but never got round to. Unsane-Visqueen Neurosis- Given to the rising Witchcraft- The Alchemist Electric Wizard- witchcult today
Best Albums I bought this year that Arent of this year. Black Sabbath- Paranoid Finally got round to getting it. Fucking good
Thin Lizzy- Jail Break Anyone who thinks Im taking the piss can fuck off.
Sleep - Jerusalem Ok didnt buy this, I borrowed it from greg, but it so good I havent given it back to him for like 4 or 3 months.
Queens of the Stone age- S/T My girlfreind has had this for years on Vinyl. Actually only listened to it this year. Well good. Much better then they are now.
And countless more I cant be bothered to remember.
Worst? mm. I know it was end of last year but Isis last album was very poor indeed. I respect them for doing what they want to do, no one can tell them what to do, but man it was shit in my opinion. Plus I found Aaron Turner too stand offish when I met him earlier in the year.
And Devil Sold His soul. Didnt buy the album. but what I heard, man I just dont get their hype. Top guys though.

This drunk, enourmously fat dude who looked like he'd just walked off a building site sang Jail Break at a kareoke I was at the other day. Without doubt the funniest thing I have ever seen. Like, actually, ever, ever seen. This guy was stage presence incarnate. Britain's got talent, alright.
He followed it up with Clapton's "Cocaine". Equally good.
Best album I heard this year not from this year was by Earth, think its called Pentagrams, '97 I believe. Fucking great.

hah. mint.
Yeah that earth Album will be Pentastar:in the style of the demons. Teh one with a car on the cover. Yeah its pretty good, most "band" sounding of the pre clean Dylan Carson stuff.
If you ever seen the Documentary, Kurt and Courtney when he's interviewed whilst smacked off his face, that album was from around then.
I found their new album a little "Meh". was good an all, but a little Anti climax. and the DVD with it would have been better with subtitles. as I cant understand a word Dylan Carson says.

Radiohead's new album is also pretty amazing. Better than HTTT that's for sure. Does anyone else have it? How much did everyone pay?

It's a sad world we live in when you have to justify liking thin lizzy. One of, if not the best 'old' bands.

Too many to choose from.
Shit album had to be The Stooges. Glad to have them back for a bit, but they blew it really badly.
Twilight Sad album is up there with the best.
Never got round to Radiohead and didn't really make any special effort to either.

Totally agree with Russ, Thin Lizzy are just amazing
Having trouble remembering what I bought this year that actually came out this year, 2 spring to mind:
In defence of the genre - Say Anything, totally brilliant songs, well structured with really catchy lyrics
The Alchemy Index vol 1 + 2 - Thrice, 2 discs, 2 radically different EPs, well worth a listen.
One album that's pissing me off
Orchestra of wolves by Gallows - The most hardcore/punk rock band in Britain have just re-released their debut for the third time. What's with that?
